Texas In Focus: South Texas
A new report by the Comptroller’s office provides a promising outlook for the South Texas region. Texas in Focus: South Texas is the third in a series of Comptroller reports highlighting economic development issues statewide and for individual regions of Texas.
The report examines issues affecting 28 counties as well as the cities of Corpus Christi, Brownsville, Laredo, Del Rio, McAllen, Eagle Pass and Harlingen.
It provides information on the forces driving change in South Texas.
The report also examines factors that may affect the development of its economy. The report covers economic development, demographics, infrastructure, health care and education for the region.
The South Texas region’s economic outlook is excellent. The region’s rate of job growth will outpace that of the state through 2012, and South Texas has a young and rapidly growing population to grasp those opportunities. South Texas ranks above the statewide average on several educational benchmarks and shows an enormous potential for producing an educated and effective work force.
